The client
The Qatar Racing & Equestrian Club is the national home of the Arabian horse — and once a year, the place a bloodline changes hands.
At Al Rayyan, QREC's annual auction puts the country's finest Arabians on a single stage. Each lot is a living pedigree — and the catalogue is the first thing a buyer holds, the document that has to make a horse feel inevitable.
The brief
A sale list had to read like a pedigree.
An auction catalogue is a logistics document — lot numbers, dates, terms. But it is also the first impression of every horse in the ring.
So the design couldn't decorate the data. It had to confer prestige — make each lot feel museum-grade, and the whole sale feel like a single, considered collection.
One repeatable page, disciplined enough to carry a hundred horses without tiring — set in two languages, and delivered with almost no time.
The system
One page. Five fixed zones.
- 01 · MarkDiamond, lot № & nameThe teal emblem and the horse's name, set apart — the same anchor on every page.
- 02 · MetaColour · sex · origin · foalingA single mono line — Bay | Male | QA | 02/02/2024 — scannable across a hundred lots.
- 03 · PortraitThe framed photographOne considered image per horse — paddock, arena or studio — given a quiet frame.
- 04 · PedigreeThree generationsSire and dam, drawn as a tree — the lineage that is, really, what's for sale.
- 05 · RecordProperty & performanceOwner and results — the closing line of the lot's case.
The catalogue
One hundred and twenty-six pages.
Cover to closing lot — drag through the book the auction ran on.
The craft
The size of it was the real design problem.
The object
Print-ready, to the bleed.
A bound catalogue for the sale ring and a digital edition for the room — one teal-and-gold system, a Sadu border, and the QREC mark on every page.

The account
One catalogue. A whole season around it.
The auction book was the flagship — but the same system ran the racecourse all year: season calendars, the winner's circle at the Qatar Derby and Coupe de France, race-day broadcasts, and the daily declarations, in two languages.
